BOARD OF TRUSTEES

The Board of Trustees provides strategic leadership, governance, and oversight to ensure that the Trust fulfills its mission and operates transparently.

Abdullah Mohammed Balla is a Sudanese national born in 1958 and currently residing in Malawi. He completed all his early education in Sudan and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Omdurman Islamic University in 1980. He has extensive experience in education and Islamic community service. From 1980 to 1988, he worked as a teacher in scientific institutes in the Republic of Yemen. Between 1989 and 1992, he served as a representative of the African Muslim Agency in Malawi. From 1992 to 2000, he was the director of the Mangochi Islamic Centre under the Muslim Association of Malawi. Since 2001, he has been working with Al-Baraka Charity Organization as the Coordinator of Assalam Complex in Mangochi, Director of Qur’anic Schools, and Dean of Assalam Teachers Training Institute. He also serves as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Bena Charity Trust in Malawi and is a Board Member of the African Muslim Agency in Malawi.

Born in 1955, he graduated in 1975 from Nadwatul Ulama University in Lucknow, India, with the Al-Alamiyyah certificate, and later completed his studies in Da‘wah and Fundamentals of Religion at Islamic University of Madinah in 1979. He has served as an Islamic preacher in Malawi since 1982, initially under the Departments of Scientific Research, Fatwa, Da‘wah, and Guidance, and later under the Saudi Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Da‘wah, and Guidance until 2019. In addition, he has been the Director of Sayyidina Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq Institute in Blantyre since 1982, actively engaged in religious guidance, education, training, and institutional administration.

Hafiz Faisal Kassam, born on 1st May 1969, is a British national, married with three children, and a seasoned macro-business entrepreneur. He serves as a Director at Rainbow Paints Ltd and plays key leadership roles in several community and faith-based institutions, including Mai Aisha Trust focusing on infrastructure development, health, and education, as well as the Islamic Information Bureau and the Halaal Department under the Muslim Association of Malawi, where he contributes to civic education, food standards, and nutrition initiatives.

Ibrahim Milanzi, born in 1959 in Zomba, Malawi, holds a BA in Human Resource Management from the University of Malawi and a University Diploma in Business Studies. He has served in several senior leadership and diplomatic roles, including Executive Director of the Muslim Association of Malawi, WAMY Representative for Southern Africa, Malawi Ambassador to Libya, and High Commissioner to the United Kingdom. He was previously the Executive Director of Albarakah Charity Trust and is a member of the board of trustees for Bena Charity Trust.


A Malawian national born on 2 March 1972, is an experienced politician and diplomat with extensive national and international exposure, having travelled to over 80 countries worldwide. He currently serves as Secretary General of the People’s Party and as a Board Member and Rotating Chairperson of the Centre for Multiparty Democracy, overseeing strategic planning, leadership training, and nationwide party operations. He previously served as Minister of Energy and Deputy Minister of Environment and Climate Change Management in the Malawi Government under President Joyce Banda, and as a Member of Parliament for Mangochi North for ten years. Academically, he holds a Bachelor of Arts in Islamic Studies from Islamic University of Madinah, professional certificates in leadership and international diplomacy from institutions in the USA and the UK, and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in International Diplomacy at University of Leicester.

Mohamed Osman Mohamed Ahmed Omar, a Sudanese national born on 10 September 1962, is an experienced educationist and Islamic development leader, married with three children and fluent in Arabic and English. He holds a degree in Education specializing in Physics and Chemistry from Zagazig University in Egypt and began his career with the Ministry of Education in Sudan. He has held senior leadership roles with Munazamat al-Da‘wa al-Islamia across Sudan, Malawi, and the Eastern and Southern Africa region, and since May 2008 has been serving as Director of the Islamic Zakaat Fund and Radio Islam in Malawi.
